Max Is Therapy-Bound in the First Trailer for ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’

Universal and Illumination released the first trailer for ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2.’

In 2016, Illumination and Universal Pictures released an animated comedy that dared to ask what our pets are doing when we head out for the day. Though The Secret Life of Pets looked, at a glance, like a watered-down family comedy, the film turned out to be an incisive, sweet-natured flick that handily personified the behavior we attribute to our four-legged friends.

Seriously, Lake Bell WAS a kitty cat.

On Wednesday, Universal released the first trailer for the follow-up to the razor-sharp pet comedy, and while plot details for The Secret Life of Pets 2 remain scarce, the humor that defined the original seems in place.

The original film followed Max, a spunky terrier, and his new roommate Duke, a loving, but dim-witted mutt as they embarked on an adventure across the city of New York. Originally, Max was voiced by some moron who subsequently shat all over his career. In The Secret Life of Pets 2, that dude has been replaced by Patton Oswalt, a casting decision so inspired it makes you wish Oswalt had gotten the job right off the bat.

In addition to Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Lake Bell, Hannibal Burress, and the rest of the furry gang have signed on for another round of laughs. Also, Harrison Ford, Nick Kroll, Tiffany Haddish, and a slew of other talented performers have signed on for the fun.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is due to hit theaters on June 7 next year.
